Anesthesia Tech
Job Requirements
Assists the anesthesia care team and the surgery department staff with technical support before, during and after each case. Assists in the ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment necessary to maintain an efficient anesthesia department.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age, culture, ethnicity, and specific individual diagnostic needs of the patients served in his/her department. He/she must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group (pediatric, adolescents and/or geriatric patient group, culture and diagnostic specific).
Consistently expresses and demonstrates compassion and courtesy for patients. Extends courtesy and support to patient's families/visitors.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

• Clean and care for flexible bronchoscope.
• Care and cleaning of Laryngoscope blades and handles.
• Assist anesthesia Care Team before during and after surgical procedure.
• Keep anesthesia cart clean and free from unmarked syringes.
• Maintains anesthesia inventory and controls par levels.

• Recognizes and acts on all potential or actual equipment and or instrumentation problems. Demonstrates diligent adherence to cleaning processes.
• Models critical thinking and clinical competency related to anesthesia equipment, supplies and IV line set-up processes.
• Monitors routine maintenance schedule for equipment for completion in collaboration with designated bio-medical engineer.
• Assures availability and appropriate levels of anesthesia supplies in OR rooms.
• Provides assistance within scope of role in emergent situations and/or unexpected patient outcomes in collaboration with anesthesiologist and other members of surgical team.

• Ensures the safety of the clinical environment for patients.
• Demonstrates knowledge practice and accountability for compliance with TJC NPSG.
• Detects reports or takes action to avoid or correct safety risks.
• Uses safe lifting techniques and good body mechanics in daily practice.
• Cost Effectiveness:
• Employs practices that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize charge capture when delivering patient care.
• Effectively sets priorities and demonstrates time management skills.
• Adjusts schedule to meet need of unit.
• Maintains anesthesia inventory and controls par levels.
• Education and Research:
• Assumes responsibility for maintaining and updating competency and clinical knowledge base related to role.
• Identifies and addresses learning needs of self.
• Attends required in-services. Completes written training exercises.
Work Experience
• CPR certified within the probationary period.
• High school diploma or possession of a State High School Equivalency Certificate (GED).
• A minimum of one year experience as an Anesthesia Technician or equivalent work experience is required. Experience in a health care environment is preferred or completion of a certified training program for anesthesia technicians.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, proper conduct in an operating room, disinfecting protocols, and general mathematics.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to work with various clinical personnel, resolve problems and to properly identify and label supplies for inventory purposes.
• Must have visual and auditory acuity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Communication/ Collaboration - Works effectively with surgical and anesthesia team to provide anesthesia equipment assistance during surgical procedures while using customer service skills and promote safety. Uses verbal, interpersonal, and teamwork skills to provide care along with other team members in a cohesive manner. Demonstrates a positive attitude in the work environment.
• Fire in the OR - Able to accurately assess and monitor environment for potential hazards resulting in a flammable event. Maintains safety of the Operating Room and surrounding area during daily practice. Follows policy and procedure as well as all regulatory requirements for Fire safety. Attends in services, watches video, successfully completes written testing, responds appropriately to Fire drill, and/or participates in competency marathon on an annual basis.
• Invasive Line set-up - Able to demonstrate proper set-up for Hemodynamic system using sterile technique based on manufacturer guidelines and MD orders.
• Demonstrate ability to operate Steris.
• Demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique.
